We often see Mary as a statue or on holy cards...perfectly poised, put together, unfazed. But, in reality, she faced incredible challenges and is more relatable than you might think! What wisdom can we learn from her as we strive to be disciples of Jesus Christ? What can she teach us about how to pray with an open heart? Join us for a women's communion breakfast facilitated by Jennifer Perito entitled, “A Morning with Mary:Praying with the Heart of the Blessed Mother” Saturday, May 6, 9:30 am-11 pm (Mass at 9 am), at St. Mary's St. Andrew's. $15 per person includes hearty breakfast, a talk, fellowship and resources for prayer. Register by May 1 by calling 845-647-6080, [email protected] or using the Registration link.

The Charity Golf Tournament is hosted by St. Mary & St. Andrew's RC Church located in the village of Ellenville nestled in the Shawangunk Mountain Valley. This annual event gives the church the ability to provide to the many facets of the parish and communities needs. They have operated a food pantry for the last 35 years with great success due to the ongoing support and generosity of wonderful people such as yourself. The event also supports our youth outreach efforts giving us the ability to provide retreat experiences for young people that may not have the financial means to attend. We also try to meet indivduals needs as they present themselves with the resources we have available. Please consider sponsorship, or golfing at our touranament or even a donation. Anything you can do to support our event will be put to good use to benefit outreach efforts and ultimately making our community a better place.

On December 12th, clerics, our new Guadalupan Committee, parishioners, neighbors, and people from other towns and counties gathered in prayer, song, and then good food and good company to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of Mexico, the Empress of the Americas, and the patroness of the prolife movement in the United States. For this project, which involved outreach and evangelization of local Hispanics as well as the greater community, as well as the devotion itself, Fr. Kenneth Riello, our pastor, relied on the coordination by Fr. Arthur Rojas, our main priest for Hispanic ministry, our new Guadalupan Committee (Isidro Santamaria, Chairman), the owners of Gaby’s restaurant at Ellenville, and generous parishioners of both Spanish and English speaking communities. About 40 people braved the dark wintry cold to sing the “Mañanitas”, the traditional morning serenade of Our Lady, from 4:30 to 6 a.m., followed by a tasty breakfast at our parish hall. At the evening Mass, a diverse crowd of almost 90 Spanish and English speakers attended and most followed to a delicious dinner at the hall.
A further surprise ensued when on behalf of his parish, Presentation-Sacred Heart Parish (Port Ewen-Esopus, N.Y.), Fr. Rojas gave Fr. Riello a check of $2,113 towards the expenses of our Food Pantry. The check represented an over 300% increase from the donation of last year from the collection of the Masses on Thanksgiving Day. Finally, congratulations to Ms. Teresa Ramos as the winner of our raffle! We urge our parishioners to build on the success and outreach that culminated last night!

Fr./P. Arthur Rojas
